Why I Love Shooting at Red Cliffs

Red Cliffs is one of my favorite places to shoot in Southern Utah because it feels wild, open, colorful, and unmistakably Western.

The scenery has everything I’m drawn to as a photographer — red rock, desert texture, wide skies, natural movement, and light that changes beautifully throughout the day. It’s the kind of place that gives every session depth, color, and a real sense of place.

What makes Red Cliffs so special is its variety. The broader conservation area includes sandstone cliffs, desert terrain, creek corridors, and miles of scenic trails, which gives us a wide range of looks without losing that signature Southern Utah feel. Official BLM information describes the area as part of the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area, known for Navajo sandstone, desert habitat, and expansive recreation space.
